What is SHAPE?

Vision
Shared Ministry is a volunteer management ministry of Bethlehem Lutheran Church that connects God's people with ministry needs at Bethlehem.

Mission/Purpose
Shared Ministry exists to ensure that all may experience and appreciate their God- given gifts and grow in their faith. We will empower, equip and mobilize His followers to share His love in service to the greater community.

What Does this Mean to Me?
At Bethlehem, we believe God's Word when he said he created good works for us to do. Ministry is for all of God's people - for all of their lives. It's not just for professional church workers, young people, retired people, specially gifted people - any people other than me. Ministry is for everyone - the priesthood of all believers. The key for each of us is to find out how we can use our unique mix to serve Him, our families, neighbors and His kingdom.

The SHAPE approach is one way to help us think about our unique one-of-a-kind combination of Spiritual Gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality and Experiences. God equipped each of us with a different mix, equipping us to carry out His plans for us.

Spiritual gifts - God gave you special abilities that are meant for use in building up our church family and for reaching out to the world with Christ's love.

Heart - God gave you unique passion for particular activities, subjects and circumstances. He gave you a heart for the things you feel deeply about to help you define how and where He wants you to serve Him.

Abilities - You have abilities that you can use in specific ways. These talents can assist you in carrying out your ministry.

Personality - God needs your personality in ministry! He wants to use you whether you're an extrovert or an introvert; whether you enjoy a stable routine or variety.

Experiences - God has placed a multitude of experiences in your life to help mold you for ministry. He can, and will, use the experiences in your background to help heal the hurts of others in His church and in your community.
